AIOUG – Oracle Multicloud 2024

A few months back, I came across AIOUGAll India Oracle Users Group, which is a community of the Oracle Users – an amazing platform to learn and share, founded by Sai Penumuru.

Recently, they conducted a couple of sessions (Multi-cities) about Multicloud. I had an opportunity to attended the session in Bengaluru.

The latest technologies discussed, especially Gen AI on multicloud, and how Oracle is continuously working to integrate with other cloud technologies were amazing. I’m inspired by our CEO, Larry Ellison’s vision and felt so proud of Oracle, MySQL’s various Engineering team’s efforts to make this happen quickly and efficiently.

After the keynote topics by Sai and Connor McDonanld on Future of Data AI and App Development (which was very informative) , I focused more on attending the sessions related to MySQL Heatwave, as I am more inclined towards MySQL (you cannot blame me for it…! 😉 ) and regarding the significance of securing the data on the cloud.

MySQL HeatWave is available in multiple clouds, including OCI, AWS, and Microsoft Azure.

and it’s performance benchmarks and cost effectiveness is impressive!

MySQL Lakehouse is a free add-on feature to improve the performance even further.

Speaker Abhinav Agarwal also spoke about the Vector Store and Generative AI in MySQL HeatWave about how a customer can use MySQL Heatwave’s Vector feature to integrate Gen AI with their internal data and as well, in the most secured form.

Later, Speaker Vipin Samar spoke about starting with the basics of data security.

“Invest in IT and IT Security as if there is no tomorrow” – Swaminathan Janakiraman
Deputy Governor, Reserve Bank of India

As a responsible DBA, can you answer these questions as a “YES”?
Do you know, how safe are you?

  • How strong are your locks?
  • Who all have your keys? Do they need those keys?
  • Where is your sensitive data?
  • What your privileged users are doing?
  • If you have been hacked?

and the various advanced tools that Oracle provides to address the data security concerns for the customer:

Speaker Gopal Mulagund talked about Data Security Challenges and how to address them.

Speaker Jayaprakash Subramaniun explained and demonstrated on db monitoring with Observability and Management tool via OCI.

The day culminated with a very insightful session by Vipin Samar reg the future of our career, due to AI. It’s time to start thinking creative, to continue to contribute by “thinking outside the box“, how we could use our inbuilt brain power and intuitive power to get creative ideas or whenever you feel stuck :

I took the liberty to create a visual representation :

Here, our brain is like a box. If we give it a short/long, responsible break, it becomes more productive. This break should not involve any distractions like electronic devices, coffee, or smoking. Instead, we should do nothing except the following:

  1. sleeping on it
  2. taking a walk in nature (without distractions such as music on headphone) – observe around, which will slow down our mind
  3. building a reading habit
  4. look at the situation with fresh eyes
  5. sharing the challenges with Mentors/Peers/Managers
  6. mindful breathing
  7. surrendering; for the ideas to come in on it’s own by putting an intention.

This session was personally very inspiring for me, as I have experienced too that working on our overall wellbeing (physical, mental and emotion) is very essential to perform at our best – be it in professional or personal aspects of life.

It’s simple : When we feel good from inside, we do our best with everyone and focus on serving without overthinking.

Let me share a tip with you that we also practically got to experience during the session. Yes, it was a quick 1-minute mindful meditation during the session! How often does this happen in technical events? 😀

I hope you will try right after reading. It’s important to experience this tip practically, rather than just reading about it.

  1. Sit up straight and close your eyes.
  2. Let’s practice mindful breathing for a minute.
  3. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth, like you’re blowing through a straw. Take deep, slow breaths and keep this up for a minute.
  4. When you feel relaxed, stay in that moment as long as you want, then gently open your eyes with a beautiful smile 🙂

How did you feel?

Did you notice how our mind and body relax instantly with just a few focused breaths?

Practice this mindful breathing whenever you want, as many times as you need, wherever you are. You will see that you become more productive. Simple, yet very powerful. Yes, all the attendees experienced this during the session!

This was ofcourse a great platform to network with various SMEs, Leaders and tech savvies from other Oracle / MySQL customers.

What’s more?

AIOUG also arranged for FREE Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) certification exams for all the attendees, sponsored by Oracle University.

Eligible OCI exams under this offer: One certification per member.
